    Clivoy castle in Chailland

    Nestled in the valley of the Ernée, near Chailland, the park and garden of the Château de Clivoy (classified as a "Remarkable Garden") opens, from May to September, the doors to a world as timeless. From the noble vegetable garden with greenhouse, pond, orangery... to the rocky ramparts of the old military post. From the six hectares of the English park to the footpaths...
    The castle offers you a gîte in its outbuildings.

    Chailland in Mayenne

    Chailland is mentioned around 1085, in the cartulary of Ronceray d'Angers. In the 16th century the town suffered the disasters of the wars of religion. Land of breeding and culture, the city prospered with the establishment of forges from the 17th century. The presence of forests and the river Ernée justified the installation of the Forges de Chailland. At the start of your next stage on the via Columbani you can cross the old site of the Forges.
    Cardinal de Mazarin bought the forge in 1657 and it has since remained an outbuilding of the Duchy of Mayenne. During the Revolution, the forge employed 500 workers and 400 horses and mules.
    The neo-gothic church of Chailland (1892) was built in the style of the 13th century to replace a Romanesque church.

In front of the Saint-Martin church in Le Bourgneuf-la-Forêt on the right rue Principale, first street on the right rue des Poiriers, on the left rue du Trianon D 123
  1. Turn right at the Calvary crossroads D 123, first road on the left Le Petit Fresnay, straight ahead on tarmac road, turn right at the crossroads at Les Beillardières, straight ahead.
  2. Turn left at the crossroads with D 123, go over D 31, rue du Bourgneuf, place de l'église, go past the cemetery D 123
  3. After the crossroads for La Primaudière, on the left take the path in the little wood, red and white signs for the Tour des Marches de Bretagne, first road on the right, straight ahead after a right turn on the left on the D 548.
  4. At the crossroads on the right D 548 quai d'Hudéot on the left at the crossroads with rue Saint-Hilaire you arrive at the church Notre-Dame de Chailland
