5. Dervio to Varenna

Pass to the left of the Orezia tower and go down towards via Valvarrone (SP67) by a path that zigzags through the houses after the tower and then to the mountainside:

1. Turn left on via SP67, via Armando Diaz which then becomes via Duca d'Aosta, cross the river Varrone and pass in front of the church of San Quirico.
   
   
2. At the exit of Dervio marked by the passage of the road under the railway track, take on the left a marked staircase Sentiero del Viandante "SV" which goes up towards Chignolo. Enjoy this route with care for its view of the lake and for its realization, either dug in the rock, or on a terrace with retaining walls, between gardens and terraces planted with vines, olive trees and palm trees. After a rock engraved in 1693, pass over Ronchi's houses, then in front of a baroque chapel before reaching the furrow of the Valle Grande stream, which borders the towns of Dervio and Bellano.
   
   
3. After a second valley, join the road that goes up to Verginate and follow it southwards across three thalwegs to the hamlet of Oro.
   
   
4. At the exit of Oro after the third torrent, take the path on the left that goes up towards Pendaglio. At the top, turn right to bypass the SS36, follow the path in the Mulini Valley (in reference to the presence of mills in the past) then in a second narrow valley with water niches to climb to the road that goes up from Bellano to Vendrogno. Cross the road and continue higher to enter the old part of Lezzeno, and take an alleyway that leads to the sanctuary dedicated to the Madonna delle Lacrime. From the sanctuary park, go down a moderate slope towards the hamlet of Ombriaco then after the wash house by a steep slope and many steps towards the church of San Rocco in Bellano to reach the bridge over the Pioverna stream.
   
   
5. After the bridge, follow the path, cross the SP62 three times and go halfway along the coast in front of the Sant'Andrea chapel and then further along in front of the Madonna Addolorata chapel before reaching the bridge over the Bosio. Go up the SV trail on a moderate slope to the valley of the Valle Masna stream below the hamlet of Regoledo and continue on the side to join the Sacra Famiglia road until you reach a sharp left turn with an oratory. 
   
   
6. In the bend, take the path to the right which goes down and joins the Cava Bassa road then go up the Perledo road to a hairpin bend of the via per Esino. Take the road to the right and then the first path to the left at a fork. Follow the SV trail that climbs underneath the village of Regolo, arrives by the terraced meadows at the baroque chapel of the Madonna di Compallo and crosses the Torrente Esino before reaching the magnificent promontory of Vezio. 
   
   
7. At the entrance to Vezio, turn right onto the path (Via per Vezio) that leads down to Varenna. It reaches the coastal road (Via Corrado Venini) which leads to its destination on the church square.
