River Barrow
The River Barrow is a river that rises at Glenbarrow in the Slieve Bloom Mountains of County Laois and flows through a wide estuary into the Celtic Sea south-east of Waterford. It is channelled and bordered by a towpath which allows a pleasant ascent to Carlow.

Description

From the church, reach the bridge over the River Barrow:

Turn left to follow the west bank of the River Barrow. Still on this bank, the track passes under the R448 road and later under the M9 motorway.
The river is lined by a canal at a footbridge: continue along the canal before following the River Barrow again along a footpath to Carlow, which is reached at the end by a small Castelview road.
At the end, turn right over the bridge towards the cathedral, whose spire is visible. Take the main street which leaves the castle on the right and continues into Kennedy Street. At the next bend, turn left onto Castle Street, which continues into Tullow Street, then left onto College Street before the tourist office to reach the cathedral.
