    Kilbroney Graveyard

‘Cill Bhronaigh, or Bronagh Church (12th century), is located in the churchyard just outside Rostrevor on Hilltown Road. The churchyard contains the late 8th century cross of St Bronagh and a ruined 15th century building. There is also a ‘healing well’ said to cure eye and throat ailments. The 6th-century bell of St Bronagh is on display in the local Catholic church in Rostrevor.

Description

From the finishing church, walk north-east up Church Street for 50m and turn left into Water Street, which leads down to the River Rostrevor. Reach and cross the stone road bridge:
  1. Turn left into the park (signposted St Patrick) and continue along the south-east driveway for 400m, which leads to a car park and picnic area. Pass to the left of The Gloughmore Centre and after 50m join a circular track.
  2. Turn right and then left to continue along the no-access road (signposted). Continue for 1km along the axis of the valley (north-east) through Rostrevor forest (waymark).
  3. Leave the track on your left which joins Newton Road and runs parallel to the forest track. Continue for 2km along the well-marked forest track until you cross the Yellow Water River.
  4. Continue in the same direction for 2.5km. The track turns into a path which leaves the forest, crosses a new stream and climbs a little before joining a new stream.
