Take advantage of a flat stage to rest after the mountain paths and enjoy Lecco at the end of Lake Como before continuing towards Milan.
After the steep mountain paths over Lake Como, a short and quiet path along Lake Olginate and the Adda River gradually leaves the Alps with less and less rugged terrain.

Description

At the door of the Basilica, go down the stairs towards Piazza Mario Cermenati and then towards the lake:
  1. Follow the pedestrian path along the lake until you come back to via Costituzione at a bridge. Continue to the right along a car park and turn right at the end of the pedestrian street onto Via Raffaello Sanzio to return to the lakeside. Follow this track to the end of the lake marked by the Adda river and the John Fitzgerald Kennedy bridge. Stay on this shore continuing along a pavement and a shaded path that leads to the Azzone Visconti bridge. Cross this bridge and continue on the opposite bank on via Ettore Monti and then on the riverside path, passing under the railway line and joining via Alzaia until you pass under the SS36 motorway which marks the beginning of Lake Garlate.
  2. Continue along the tarmac track that runs alongside the lake and passes through various parks (La Fornace, Marco, Torrete,...) with shady benches until you reach the junction with via Statale SP72. Follow this road on the pavement, pass a roundabout and take the track on the left after the McDonald's. Follow the tarmac track to the dam and the Vittorio Emanuele III bridge, which mark the end of Lake Garlate and the beginning of Lake Olginate.
  3. Continue across the road on Via Martiri della Liberta and then on the dirt track of Via Lungo Lago next to a fitness trail that loops around before a water treatment plant. At the end of the Olginate lake and the industrial area, continue in nature on the track parallel to via dell Industria, passing under the pedestrian/bike bridge, under the railway line by strada Alzaia and then under the suspension bridge of SP74.
  4. Continue along this shaded bank, passing a last factory (Costacurto Spa-Vico) to find the peace and quiet of the water. Follow the Adda, which meanders first and then meanders again as it approaches the SP72. Follow the dirt track along the water's edge until you reach Brivio, the next village behind the third bend in the river.
  5. After a footbridge over a pond, turn left to join the riverbank and follow it along the track to via Leonardo da Vinci at a tower in the middle of Brivio. Pass under a bridge and near the few houses at the end of the village and follow the track at the foot of the hillside. Leave two hamlets (frazione Toffo and localita Molinazzo) on your right. At an island on the Adda, cross a footbridge and continue to the first path on the right which passes a tennis court and climbs towards Arlate. At the top of Via Nuova Provinciale, continue straight ahead on Via dei Mulini until the end and then turn left onto Via Papa Giovanni XXIII to reach the destination.
